First round of examination

This week, over a hundred dogs were brought to Kuujjuarapik by plane and are now resting on the ice. A first round of examinations where accomplished on Saturday and the rest will be completed today. Up to now, the dog teams are in great shape. The dogs must a have a good body score which means they have a little bit of fat reserve and are not too skinny because they will use those reserves during the race. Some minor problems where also encountered such as biting wounds and feet erosion due to past training. One of the dogs lost a toenail during the flight but we are caring for it and he should be ready to run in a few days. He’s shown in the picture.

  1. Julie you are so fortunate to get to know the huskie dog. The puppies are cute and the huskie dog are very instinctive animals to work. Enjoy your journey with the teams and sled dogs and Nakurmiik.
