MAKIVIK ANNOUNCES ANNUAL IVAKKAK RACE 2020
December 5, 2019 – The organizing committee of Ivakkak 2020 is happy to announce that annual dog race will return to the Nunavik trails on Monday February 24, 2020. The race will depart from the community of Kangirsuk heading south-east along the coast to the finish line in Kangiqsualujjuaq. Registration forms are now available for potential racers and their partners to fill out for the 19th edition of the Ivakkak race. The number of dogs varies from 10 to 12 per team.
As in the past, the teams are followed by a support crew that includes a veterinarian. The safety and welfare of all participants and dogs is of upmost importance to Makivik Corporation and the Ivakkak race organizing team.
For the Ivakkak’s 19th edition, the mushers will pass through the communities of Aupaluk, Tasiujaq, and Kuujjuaq finishing in Kangiqsualujjuaq. The race is expected to last for an estimated 12 days, depending on the weather.
