(Kuujjuaq, QC, March 18, 2015) – The 2015 Ivakkak Dog Team Race began yesterday in Kuujjuaraapik with 10 teams racing from the communities of Puvirnituq, Quaqtaq, Kuujjuaq, Tasiujaq and Inukjuak.

“I am very pleased that we can continue our ancestors’ legacy through dog teaming in this annual Ivakkak race. This experience for the racers is an obvious indication that it is needed because they all have said that they value this time spent with other mushers – they all are learning in this shared experience,” says Michael Gordon, Vice-President of Makivik.

On Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. the race began in Kuujjuaraapik. The Ivakkak dog team racers travelled 83.5 KM for the first part of the race.
